Escape Materialistic Universe!
Do we ever felt like our self "Am I materialistic person ?" Are we looking forward to grasp material and physical goods, such as money, luxury properties, harley davidson, BMW, iPhone, etc to make us feel happy? 99.99% of them including me are in the same route map in our life.
Materialistic Person - A materialistic person is someone who has a preoccupation in his mind with the owning of material possessions, such as luxury goods and wealth, and equates them to happiness, satisfaction and fulfillment. This is happening when their possessions is motivated by emotional reasons rather than functional reasons.
Now a days, Materialism has become the prevalent trend in our society, just think of the constant, growing fixed mind set about earning more money and owning material goods.
Because of this, we are now better on every aspects of our life than ever before, like high consumption of mobile phones, computers and basic needs, etc. Based on this definitive formula, we have to think everyone should be happier today than in the past. Shouldn't they be?
Obviously, that doesn't seem to be the case. Just think off. Despite increasing the wealth beyond our basic needs, we actually have become apocryphal to our happiness. It leads to breed unhappiness in our life.
There was a boy pursuing his Engineering in Mumbai who came from mediocre family. He used to be materialistic. He was frequently shopping with friends, checking out the latest mobile phones, fashion dresses in the online community. Not only he, every one around him aspiring towards owning material possessions (both physical goods and wealth). Because they believe, that will improve their quality of life.
Even this thought stands for us also. If ever, we acquire our long term needs which we yearning for, that match our expected happiness. Intuitively, we start think like people with huge wealth and property would be much happier than others.
Realistically, the illusion of material possessions stay for an hour or a day or might stands for a week. After that, we continue to acquire more physical goods to sustain our happiness in a different angle. In this constant cycle, we never asked our self, why did we have to continually get more of them to keep our self happy?
After much analysis, we will arrive at point that "materialism actually bred discontentment upon us" In fact, the statement sounds more hare-brained to us. If we probe deep into our desires towards material possessions, it is a artificial symbol of happiness. We look upon them as traverse to our idealistic way of life, to increase our self esteem, to boost our confidence, to make us feel more worthy, to feel more attractive. It looks represents as a symbol of hope, happiness and joy. For example, if we ask someone what he/she thinks about Apple ? We can hear the answers like 'stylish', 'rich look', 'cool', 'Authentic Brand'. What if we ask the opinions about lower value product, it might trigger some different perceptiveness which might not fulfill their joy.
Joy is not depends on the product which they holds. It depends on how we look at it, and use it that will fill the gap of real happiness in our life. It's not depend on high brand and much valuable products.
By hinging on the loop of material possessions, we can't attain the real joy. It will create only a false sense of joy, that reinforces our desire to get more out of it. The only way to break through the materialism is to keep our belief outside the verge of materialistic. This will help to achieve our happiness without any material possessions. And also, we need to prob deep in to our materialistic tendencies, by asking questions - like what is the need of this material to get? What are the possessions that will make us unhappy, if we do not have them in our pocket? Why we need them to be happy? What are the benefits are we getting out of this?
Such analysis will help us to make the right decision. Instead of jumping immediately to acquire the materials, we need to think about how can we resolve these dissatisfaction inside us. We Shouldn't look upon them as the source of Joy. It's a temporary ornament in our life.
We should work on our self to achieve happiness, outside the material goods and wealth. That's where the right place standing to find an stabilized source of happiness and contentment. That's the way to come out of this materialistic universe!!!
